Cowan Breaks Two Club Records to Lead Wolves Twinsbet Back to Victory

Trailing by 39 minutes, Wolves Twinsbet Vilnius (17-15) managed to take the lead when it mattered most, securing a dramatic win.

Under the guidance of Alessandro Magro, the team triumphed 107-106 (20:26, 29:27, 23:25, 35:28) over Nevėžis-Optibet (10-22) in Kėdainiai, levelling their position with 7bet-Lietkabelis in the standings.

The home team held the lead until the final moments, but a crazy sequence of events unfolded in the dying minutes. Marek Blaževič and Anthony Cowan each scored 3 points in different ways, and for the first time, the Wolves took the lead, 102-100. Vitalijus Kozys responded with a three-pointer, but it seemed he had drawn a foul on Cowan, which could have given the home team an advantage.

However, after a review, the referees reversed their decision, and Cowan hit a long three-pointer (103-102), though it was later ruled as an offensive foul. Kozys missed both free throws, but Arūnas Mikalauskas calmly drained a three-pointer to put Nevėžis-Optibet ahead at 106-105.

On the other side of the court, Arnoldas Kulboka drew a foul and went to the free-throw line, where he confidently sank the crucial shots, securing the win for the Wolves.

Leading the team to victory was Cowan, who set both season-high records for points and efficiency in the league. The team's leader finished with 37 points (6/6 two-pointers, 6/9 three-pointers, 7/9 free throws), 8 assists, 8 drawn fouls, and an astounding 47 efficiency points.

The efforts of the American duo couldn't save the losing side. Joseph Girard added 25 points (4/9 3PT), 5 assists, and 28 efficiency points, while Ed Croswell put up 23 points (9/11 2PT) and 24 efficiency points.

Kėdainiai still couldn't rely on Amit Ebo for help.

This loss was particularly painful for the team in Kėdainiai, as with four rounds remaining, they are one win behind Neptūnas in the standings. This means that for Gediminas Petrauskas' team to reach the playoffs, they will need to win at least two more games than their direct competitors for the quarterfinals spot.

The hosts quickly delivered an early blow to the visitors, sending them into a slight knockout (14-2). The Wolves were awakened by several three-pointers from Anthony Cowan and Kristupas Žemaitis (15-21). In the final second of the quarter, Regimantas Miniotas launched a half-court three-pointer, bringing the score to 20-26.

In the second quarter, the difference between the teams hovered around the double-digit mark, slightly fluctuating in both directions. Before the break, a successful run from Wolves Twinsbet allowed them to improve their position, finishing with a 49-53 scoreline.

After the break, Kėdainiai quickly restored their double-digit lead (61-51). In response, the Vilnius team found their rhythm and soon closed the gap to just one shot (68-71). However, Nevėžis-Optibet managed to maintain their fragile advantage, doubling it before the final quarter, 78-72. The last ten minutes unfolded in a similar fashion until both teams entered into a wild finish to the game.

Wolves Twinsbet: Anthony Cowan 37, Marek Blaževič 18, Regimantas Miniotas and Arnoldas Kulboka 11 each, Andrew Andrews 10, Tre'shawn Thurman 8, Garrison Brooks 7, Kristupas Žemaitis 3, Matas Jogėla 2.
Justinas Marcinkevičius did not play due to the coach's decision.

Nevėžis-Optibet: Joseph Girard 25, Ed Croswell 23, Ignas Vaitkus and Vitalijus Kozys 15 each, Arūnas Mikalauskas 13.
