After opening their EuroCup (BKT EuroCup) victory account impressively last week in Badalona, Vilnius 'Wolves Twinsbet' (2-3) doubled their wins in Sopot. The team from the Lithuanian capital secured a victory in overtime against the Trefl team – 99:92 (25:15, 22:22, 19:25, 18:22, 15:8). The host club remains winless in the tournament.
The Vilnius team started the game actively, leading 7:0. However, midway through the quarter, the visitors began to struggle, and coach Alessandro Magro was forced to call a timeout as Trefl reduced the deficit to 7:6. With 2 minutes left in the quarter, Tre'Shawn Thurman hit a three-pointer, giving Wolves Twinsbet a 17:10 lead. Vaidas Kariniauskas closed the quarter with a three-pointer – 25:15.
A couple of minutes into the second quarter, Andrew Andrews extended the team's lead to 31:18 with a three-pointer. However, midway through the quarter, the Wolves' advantage shrank to 37:30. Nevertheless, the Vilnius team did not let their opponents come closer, heading into halftime with a double-digit lead again – 47:37.
After the break, Trefl went on a 14:3 run, and the solid lead of the visitors melted down to just 2 points – 55:53. Nevertheless, Wolves Twinsbet withstood all of the hosts' attempts to take the lead and were ahead 66:62 with 10 minutes left to play.
At the start of the final quarter, both teams exchanged three-pointers. Then, the Vilnius team made a few successful defensive plays and regained a safer lead – 74:67. Both teams struggled to score, and midway through the quarter, the Lithuanian team was ahead 76:72. With 3 minutes remaining, Garrison Brooks’ dunk extended Wolves Twinsbet’s lead to 84:76. However, only the home team scored after that, tying the game with 25 seconds left. Anthony Cowan's drive was unsuccessful in those final seconds, forcing the game into overtime.
At the start of overtime, A. Andrews hit a three-pointer, followed by a spectacular putback dunk by T. Thurman off a missed shot. Garrison Brooks capped off the next possession with a dunk, and soon after, Andrews nailed his second three-pointer, giving Vilnius a double-digit lead, 94:84. The home team tried to rally and, with just over a minute left, had closed the gap to 4 points – 94:90. However, the Vilnius team did not let the victory slip away.
Wolves Twinsbet: Tre’Shawn Thurman 17, Andrew Andrews 15 (5 assists), Jeffery Taylor, Garrison Brooks (9 rebounds), and Anthony Cowan each with 14, Kristupas Žemaitis 9, Marek Blaževič 7, Vaidas Kariniauskas 5, Regimantas Miniotas and Matas Jogėla 2 each. Daniel Baslyk and Justinas Marcinkevičius did not play.
For Trefl, Marcus Weathers scored 25 points, and Jakub Schenk added 19 points.
