Latvian national team point guard Artūrs Žagars will not return to Lithuania next season and will now play for his mother ball club, Istanbul’s Fenerbahçe S.K., with which he has signed a long-term contract in the summer of 2023.
While playing in the Betsafe-LKL championship, the Latvian import averaged 10.1 points, dished out 3.4 assists and collected 9.6 utility points in almost 20 minutes of action.
This summer, he was part of his national team's campaign for the Qualifying Tournament of the Paris Olympic Games. In it, A. Žagars collected 9.3 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds per outing.
The 6'3" ballhandler caught the attention of the Turkish club after a fantastic performance in the 2023 FIBA World Cup and was soon loaned to Wolves Twinsbet. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old guard sustained a serious knee injury early in the season which meant missing most of last year and didn't return to the lineup until spring.
Fenerbahce, currently competing in the EuroLeague tournament, is coached by former Lithuanian star Šarūnas Jasikevičius who decided to give the Latvian a chance to debut for the Turkish team.
The Wolves Twinsbet club thanks A. Žagars for his work and contribution to the team's victories and wishes him success in his future career.
